Grammar in the Office

Grammar in the Office is a short course in basic English grammar for office employees. You will be refreshing your knowledge of nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, and conjunctions. You will study some business vocabulary. You will review punctuation marks, the use of capitals, and the expression of numbers—as applied to business documents. “Grammar in the Office” will give you the knowledge you need to communicate in today’s business office.

Proofreading Techniques

This self-paced course addresses the basic skills needed in the process of catching and correcting errors in handwritten or printed text by using proofreader’s marks. These proofreading skills involve intense concentration on each word, figure, and punctuation mark in the text being checked. In addition, grammar, punctuation, and spelling rules are reviewed to enhance basic editing skills. The most frequent grammar errors encountered in proofreading are covered.
You will be required to purchase the textbook Proof It! by George Amsbary in the MJC Bookstore.
It is recommended that you plan to spend five hours a week working on this course. You may attend any of the hours that the Center is open. At the time of registration, you should plan your schedule so that you will complete the course.
Ten-Key on the Computer

Ten-Key on the Computer is a self-paced course designed to teach the computer’s numeric keypad by touch. Students in the fields of data entry, accounting, office administration, insurance, banking, finance, and any other work that requires numeric input will especially benefit from this course.
