What
is CountryWatch:
CountryWatch is an online database
that provides up-to-date information and news on the countries
of the world. You can find cultural, political, economic, corporate,
environmental, news stories, and other key data for all 191 countries.
Accessing
CountryWatch:
1. Go to MJC
Library Home Page.
2. Click Article & Research
Databases.
3. Choose CountryWatch.
4. If you are using CountryWatch
from off campus, it will ask you for a password. Please ask a
librarian for the password by calling 209-575-6230.
Searching:
1. The easiest way to start is
by simply selecting a country from the drop down menu at the top
of the screen.
2. If you do not know the name
of a specific country, you could choose a region from the list
of World Regions located in the blue box on the left of the screen.
Once your region map is displayed, you need to choose a country
from either the map or the corresponding list of countries shown
down the left of your screen.
3. If you want to conduct specialized
research you can click on the Country Data tab at the top of the
screen. You can choose specific data elements to search and download
to a spreadsheet.
Viewing
& Printing Results: (You
have several options available at this point)
1. You can select a section to
view from the Country Review 2001 (green section on the left).
2. Or you can scroll down the middle
of the page to view news stories and other highlighted topics
about your country. Click on either the news story link or the
"more..." link if you selected a topic.
3. Or you can scroll down the column
on the right to view Key Data about your country.
4. Once you are viewing the contents
of a descriptive section, you simply go to the bottom of the page
and click "click here for printer-friendly version" to
PRINT.
5. Once the printer-friendly version
appears in a new window, just choose File/Print/OK. You
will then need to close that window to return to CountryWatch.
Exiting
CountryWatch:
There is no need to log out of
CountryWatch. You can return to the MJC Library homepage by clicking
the Library Home link on the side menu or your Home browser icon.
