MISSION
STATEMENT:
The
MJC Library Web site is designed as a research, teaching, and
reference tool for providing well-organized access to Internet
resources that support the scholarly or educational endeavors
of MJC students, faculty, and staff. In addition, the library
Web site strives to provide electronic access to library services
in support of MJC distance education efforts.
SELECTION
CRITERIA:
In
addition to subscription-based electronic databases that are part
of the library's core collection, the MJC Library Web site will
contain free, web-based resources that are relevant to the MJC
curriculum and community. Other criteria used in selection of
these resources include:
- Authority
- Appropriate
credentials or identification of those responsible for the
content are given and suggest a reputable affiliation with
regard to the topic.
- Sites
with a recognized institutional affiliation are preferred
over personal Web pages.
- Clear
statement of purpose and intended audience
- It
is evident whether information is factual or opinion, primary
or secondary in origin.
- Any
sponsorship or underwriting is disclosed.
- Accuracy
and quality
- Facts
are documented and are consistent with information from
other print or online sources.
- Web
resources for which links are provided are to quality sites.
- Links
requested by MJC faculty and students will be given high
priority unless they are found to be defective or of questionable
quality.
- Currency
- The
content is current and indication of last update is given.
- Ease
of Use and Stability
- The
site organization is logical and easy to maneuver.
- Content
is readable by the intended audience.
- Information
is generally error-free (i.e., spelling, punctuation).
- There
is a readily identifiable link back to the institutional
or organizational home page.
- The
site is accessible by those with basic technological capacity
(i.e., browsers and network speed).
- The
site is reliably accessible.
MAINTENANCE
& SUGGESTIONS:
The
MJC Library Web site is maintained by the Electronic Resources
Librarian. Links will be verified at least twice a year. Content
will be added as the need arises and time permits. Comments and
suggestions are always welcome and should be sent to carrolli@yosemite.cc.ca.us.
