What
is Library Reserves?
If
you would like all or most of the students in your class to read
the same materials, it's a good idea to place those materials
on reserve in the library. Reserve materials are placed behind
the reserve desk in a controlled area and are given shorter checkout
periods so that everyone in your class gets a chance to use them.
What
Can I Put on Reserve?
You
can put almost anything you'd like your students to read or view
on reserve in either the MJC East or West Campus Library. Examples
of reserve materials are: library materials that you find using
the MJC
Library Catalog, instructors' personal copies of books, photocopies
of articles (within the current copyright guidelines), copies
of tests, and answer keys.
How
Long Can Items be Checked Out?
You
determine how long you want your students to be able to check
out materials for your class. We have four reserve
materials checkout periods available from which you can choose.
How
Do I Place an Item on Reserve?
- If you are an MJC faculty member please use this form
to place materials that you find in the MJC
Library Catalog on reserve in either the MJC East or West
Campus Library.
- If you are requesting that we put personal copies of items
on Reserve, you should continue to come in to the library for
that process. Please note that the Library is not responsible
for the replacement of personal copies that are lost, stolen,
delinquent or damaged by students.
- Please
allow a three day lead time for the library to process
your reserve materials.
What Should I Tell my Students?
When
you tell students that items are on Reserve for your class, please:
- Don't
assume that any materials are on reserve unless you placed them
there this semester. If in doubt, check the MJC
Library Catalog (Reserve Desk area) or call
the Reserve Desk at 209-575-6229, to verify their status before
telling students that the items are in fact on reserve.
- Please
inform students that they must bring their current student
ID with them to the library in order to use reserve items.
