Terms of Lab Usage
The Electronics 109 MAGIC Lab provides computer access for students enrolled in Computer Science (CMPSC)and Computer Graphics (CMPGR) courses.
Since lab attendance is considered a part of the college's daily attendance roster and essential for lab funding, it is necessary for all MJC students to sign in and sign out of the lab at the Check-In/Check-Out computer located at the entrance of the lab.
To sign in, enter your student ID number (e.g. w091920) at the Check-In computer and a list of your current CMPSC and CMPGR courses will be displayed (For first-time users of the lab, a message will prompt you regarding a COLSK810 course. This course is free and only tracks your extended lab hours. Press Enter when this message appears). Press the corresponding number in the Row column next to the course you wish to sign into. When you are done for the day, enter your student ID number to sign out.
To use a lab computer, enter the password provided by your CMPSC/CMPGR instructor. When leaving for the day, log out or restart the computer. If you have any questions regarding the Check-In/Check-Out process or computer log-in, please feel free to ask the lab assistant on duty (Penny Belus or Ken Sholar).
In order to insure the best possible service to the Computer Science/Computer Graphics community, the following procedures and rules were established:
- Check-in before using a computer. Check-out of the lab when you are done for the day.
- Any unauthorized copying of copyrighted material (software, music, etc.) is strictly prohibited.
- A picture ID is required for checking out software, books and/or tools for use in the lab.
- Computers should be used mainly for course-related assignments. Non-related activities (games, IM, social networks, YouTube, etc.) are tolerated if the use is not abused. If the lab is busy, all non-related activities are prohibited.
- No food or drinks allowed in the lab (closed, capped drinks are permissible when placed on the floor near the workstation).
- Socializing is allowed as long as it doesn’t become disruptive. Remember, the lab is a classroom.
- Viewing pornography is strictly prohibited. Students will be banned immediately from the lab if caught and will require consent from the BBSS Division Dean to be readmitted.
- If you have a problem with a piece of equipment or software, ask an assistant for help. Do not unplug or move hardware in the lab.
- A student may use only one machine at a time.
- Please check your work area before leaving and do not leave personal items (USB drives, backpacks, etc.) unattended. The lab is not responsible for any lost or misplaced items.
- No children in the lab (refer to the MJC catalog for details).
- No pets allowed (except for guide dogs for visually impaired).
- Commercial use (for-profit) of lab software is strictly prohibited.
