Togo’s classic

MJC captures 4th in the Togo’s classic.  MJC(4-0) defeated West Hills College in the opening round 25-19; 25-18; 25-17 to move in the championship bracket.  Jaslynn leotard lead the team with 8 kills, Courtney Nutcher had 15 assists, and Aron Lazaro had 10 digs. 

In the second round MJC (4-1) fell to tournament winner Cabrillo College 18-25; 8-25; 15-25.  Natalie Grub lead the team with 4 kills,  Courtney Nutcher had 9 assists, and Aron Lazaro had 6 digs.

MJC(4-2) lost in the 3rd place match to Monterey Peninsula College 21-25, 19-25, 23-25.  Jaslynn Leotard lead the team with 9 kills, Courtney Nutcher had 22 assists, and Aron Lazaro had 17 digs. 

Tournament standings:

Cabrillo 1st, Solano 2nd, Monterey 3rd, MJC 4th, Merced 5th, West Hills 6th, Diablo Valley, Los Mendanos 8th

 

Modesto Classic Tournament September 1, 2010

Modesto Jr. College Women’s Volleyball team  finished 3- 0 and captured in 1st place in their season opener tournament hosted by MJC.  In the first match, MJC (1-0) defeated College of Alameda in 3 straight sets, 25-13, 25-15, 15-14.  Ryan Ramos lead the team with 9 kills while captain Courtney Nutcher lead with 13 assists and 5 serving aces.  In the second match, MJC (2-0) defeated district rival Columbia College in 3 straight sets, 25-20, 25-15, 25-19.  Ryan Ramos lead the team with 9 kills, Caitlin Benning had 5 aces, and co-captain Natalie Grubb cad 6 digs.  In the final match MJC (3-0) bested the defensively scrappy San Jose City College 3 sets to 1:  27-27, 25-14, 25-14, 25-15.  Ryan Ramos had 11 kills while Courtney Nutcher had 18 assists and 6 serving aces while Aaron Lazaro lead the team with 13 digs.

Columbia College finished the day in second with a 2-1 tournament record, San Jose City College finished 3rd with a 1-2 record and College of Alameda finished the tournament with a 0-3 record.
