Conference Champions: MJC won its first Big 8 Men’s Track and Field Championship Friday April 30 at Diablo Valley College by competing in a complete team effort. The Pirates earned 249.5 points to out-distance American River College who scored 180 points. Five MJC athletes earned individual titles with two winning double championships. Donovan Wallace won the 100m and 200m and Ronnie Bruce won the 10k and 5k. Individual winners were Anthony Mallory (800m), Tucker Weathers (Shot Put), and Casey Ballinger (Hammer). Other notable performances were achieved by Ryan Green (3rd place pole vault) and Ryan Gates (2nd place in the discus and hammer and 3rd place in the shot put). Coach Snaer's Bio Demitrius Snaer is in his 6th season as head men’s track and field/cross country coach at Modesto Junior College. Since his arrival in Modesto, Snaer has led the Pirates to CVC and Big 8 championships. Recently the Pirates were crowned the 2010 Big 8 champions after scoring 249.5 points, almost 70 points more than the runner up. During his 6 years at Modesto, Snaer has been named CVC, Big 8, and Northern California coach of the year. In those 6 years there have also been over 10 new school records and over 25 changes to MJC’s all time list. Snaer came to Modesto after serving as an assistant coach at East Union high where he was responsible for coaching the long jump and triple jump. Snaer also coached both jumps as well as sprints at San Joaquin Delta College. Snaer has coached 2 state champions at MJC, Brant Gilbert (200m-2005) and Joseph Turner (400m-2006). Snaer has also helped guide over 70 athletes to the state track and field championships. A former junior college state and national champion at Delta College and all-American sprinter at Fresno State, Snaer earned his bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism. He then went on to earn his master’s degree in Kinesiology from Fresno Pacific University.
