With one of the most comprehensive community college agriculture programs on the West Coast, MJC's Agriculture curriculum encompasses 18 Associate of Science Degrees and 13 Technician Certificates ranging from Agriculture Science to Veterinary Technology. Commitment to excellence is evident in the instructional program, which utilizes "state-of-the-art" technology and practical “hands-on” approaches to student learning.
Comprehensive Facilities
The melding of traditional classrooms, laboratories and shops with working agricultural enterprises on two instructional “farm” laboratory sites totaling over 100 acres, students learn theory and apply it to "real world" problems. The ‘hands on’ approach to agriculture education is paramount to all MJC Agriculture programs.
Integrated within the agriculture business community, located in the heart of California's agricultural bounty, industry field trips enable students and staff to experience the latest developments in agriculture technology advances in food and fiber production and processing, all within a short drive from the campus. One of the keys to the success of the MJC Agriculture Program is the association with and tremendous support from the local agriculture industry.
We've created a list of common AG interest, and cross linked them with degrees and certificates that are related. This is a great starting ground if you are not quite sure which major is for you! No list or tool though is a substitute for an advisor meeting, so go talk to the advisor listed to find out more details! So start now, and check out the "What Interests You?."
Agricultural studies play an essential part in filling the world-wide demand for food and fiber. The program of courses offered in agriculture is designed to prepare students for a variety of professions or occupations in agriculture or transfer to higher institutions. Students preparing for immediate entry into agricultural occupations will find practical sequences of courses designed to assist them in achieving their occupational goals. University transfers may take agricultural courses appropriate to the majors and programs of the institutions to which they are transferring.Supervised practice (work experience) is an essential part of the instruction offered and is a requirement for completion of all agricultural programs. Majors completing the appropriate requirements may earn the Associate in Science degree. Transfer and community college students completing the requirements of technical programs may earn certificates of completion. Students should consult division advisors for enrollment and program details before registration. In order to complete a program, students must complete courses approved by the division. Divisional advisors will assist students in the selection of proper courses and sequences.
