MJC Annual Field Day

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: FRIDAY, MARCH 14TH!!!

IN ALL CONTESTS THAT DESIGNATE A FOUR-MEMBER TEAM, THE HIGHEST THREE SCORES WILL MAKE UP THE TEAM SCORES FOR SUB-CONTESTS AND OVERALL TEAM AWARDS.

AGRICULTURAL PEST CONTROL:

(WEST CAMPUS – SIERRA HALL – 2nd FLOOR ROTUNDA AREA)

FIVE TEAM MINIMUM BY MARCH 14TH! The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school will designate one official four-member team. There will be no limit to the number of alternates per school. All may participate fully for individual awards.

AGRICULTURAL MECHANICS:

(EAST CAMPUS – PARKING LOT – EAST OF AG BUILDING)

The Curricular Code will be followed. Each team will consist of four members with the top three scores counting toward the final team score. Only one team will be admitted from each school. NO ALTERNATES. Materials fee: $40.00 per team. The six evaluation areas are as follows: written test and tool identification, arc welding, problem solving and plan interpretation, cold metal, oxyfuel and cutting, and soil and water management. AGRONOMY:

(EAST CAMPUS PARKING LOT – EAST OF AG BUILDING)

Curricular Code will be followed with the following exception of the following common weeds.

  • Stinging or Burning Nettle Urtica urens
  • Pineapple Weed Chamomilla suaveolens
  • Red Maids Calandrinia cilata
  • Miners Lettuce Montia perfoliata
  • Mare’s Tail or Horseweed Conyza canadensis
  • Bracken Fern Pteridium aquilinum

  • Yerba Santa Eriodictyon californicum
  • Buffalo or Common Gourd Cucurbita foetidissima
  • Tarweed Hemizonia spp.
  • Gumweed Grindelia spp.
  • Poison Oak Toxicodendron diversilobum
  • Smartweed, Pale Polygonum lapathifolium
  • Willowherb Epilobium ciliatum, or E. brachycarpum

BEST INFORMED GREENHAND:

(EAST CAMPUS – FORUM 110 – 12 NOON)

The Curricular Code will be followed. Each chapter may enter up to five first-year freshmen members.The top three scores will count towards team total with all five being eligible for individual awards. Contestants will be given one hour to take the BIG Test. Each contestant should bring 2 - #2 pencils.

DAIRY:

(OFF-SITE – DIRECTIONS TO CONTEST SITE WILL BE POSTED ON WEBSITE. REGISTRATION @ 7:00 A.M. CONTEST WILL BEGIN @ 7:30 A.M.)

CONTEST SITE: Modesto area dairy to be announced. The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school will designate one official four-member team. There will be no limit on the number of alternates per school. All may participate fully for individual awards.

FARM POWER:

(WEST CAMPUS – PARKING LOT – STUDENT CENTER – AUTO SHOP)

The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school will designate one official three-member team. THERE WILL BE A LIMIT OF ONE TEAM PER SCHOOL AND ONE ALTERNATE ALLOWED. ONLY THE FIRST 30 TEAMS REGISTERED AND PAID BY MAIL WILL BE ABLE TO COMPETE. NO EXCEPTIONS! FARM BUSINESS MANAGEMENT: (EAST CAMPUS PARKING LOT –EAST OF AG BUILDING) The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school will designate one official four-member team with the tope three scores comprising the team.

FARM RECORDS:

(EAST CAMPUS PARKING LOT – EAST OF AG BUILDING)

The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school will designate one official four-member team with the top three scores comprising the team. Limit two alternates per school. All may participate fully for individual awards.

FLORICULTURE:

(EAST CAMPUS – PARKING LOT – EAST OF AG BUILDING)

The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school will designate one official four-member team. There will be a limit of one team and no alternates per school. (FOUR STUDENTS PER SCHOOL). NO LIMIT ON CONTEST SIZE. THERE WILL BE A MATERIALS FEE OF $65.00 PER TEAM. ALL FEES MUST BE PAID IN FULL BEFORE CONFIRMATION OF TEAM ENTRY. PLEASE SEND IN WITH REGISTRATION. ADVISOR NAME AND PARTICIPATION WILL BE REQUIRED OF ALL TEAMS OFFICIALLY REGISTERED IN THE CONTEST.

FRUIT TREE JUDGING:

(INSTRUCTIONAL LAB – BECKWITH RANCH, 4554 BECKWITH ROAD, MODESTO. DIRECTIONS TO CONTEST SITE WILL BE POSTED ON WEBSITE.)

LAND JUDGING:

(EAST CAMPUS PARKING LOT – EAST OF AG BUILDING)

The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school will designate one official four-member team. The top three-team members’ scores will be selected for team awards. There will be no limit to the number of alternates per school. All may participate fully for individual awards.

LIVESTOCK JUDGING:

(WEST CAMPUS – DAIRY PAVILION – CONTEST BEGINS @ 7:30 A.M.)

There will be 10-11 classes: three judging classes of each species and a swine keep and cull class. Three sets of reasons will be given, one on each species. Beef reasons will be the performance reasons. Each school will designate one FOUR-MEMBER official team. There will be no limit to the number of alternates per school. All contestants will be eligible for individual awards.

LIVESTOCK JUDGING (NOVICE):

(WEST CAMPUS – DAIRY PAVILION – CONTEST BEGINS @ 7.30 A.M.)

Available for beginning livestock judging members (first-year contestants.) In place of reasons, there will be three questions classes where students will be asked questions about the classes. Contestants will compete for individual awards only. NO TEAMS IN THIS CONTEST. INDIVIDUALS ONLY.

MEATS: (OFF-SITE TO BE ANNOUNCED)

The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school may designate two official four-member teams. Material fees: $10.00 per contestant.

MILK QUALITY AND DAIRY FOODS:

(WEST CAMPUS – MARY STUART ROGERS LEARNING CENTER ENTRANCE)

The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school will designate one official four-member team. There will be no limit on the number of alternates per school. All may participate fully for individual awards.

NURSERY LANDSCAPE:

(EAST CAMPUS PARKING LOT – EAST OF AG BUILDING)

The Curricular Code will be followed as to classes offered. Each school will designate one official three or four-member team with the top three scores counting toward the final team score. There will be no limit to the number of alternates per school. All may participate fully for individual awards. Scantron answer sheets will be used in I.D. and the knowledge test. Each contestant should bring 2 - #2 pencils.

POULTRY:

(WEST CAMPUS – POULTRY UNIT)

The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school will designate one official four-member team. There will be no limit to the number of alternates per school. All may participate fully for individual awards. BIOSECURITY MEASURES WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED! PLEASE ADVISE YOUR STUDENTS NOT TO HAVE POULTRY CONTACT 72 HOURS PRIOR TO THE CONTEST.

SMALL ENGINES:

(WEST CAMPUS – AUTOBODY SHOP)

PLEASE NOTE: WILL BE USING MODEL 110412 OR EQUIVALENT. MATERIALS FEE-- $10.00 PER TEAM. The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school will designate one official three-member team. THE CONTEST IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 20 TEAMS REGISTERED AND PAID BY MAIL. NO EXCEPTIONS! Alternate will not be able to trouble-shoot but may participate in other areas. EACH TROUBLESHOOTING TEAM WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE A TROUBLESHOOTING JUDGE.

SPECIALTY ANIMAL JUDGING:

(EAST CAMPUS PARKING LOT – EAST OF AG BUILDING)

The Curriculum Code will be followed. The contest team will be made up of four members. Each member will compete in all events individually. NO ALTERNATES ALLOWED. FIVE TEAM TEAM MINIMUM BY FRIDAY, MARCH 14TH OR CONTEST WILL BE CANCELLED. ONLY FIRST 20 TEAMS REGISTERED AND PAID WILL BE ABLE TO COMPETE.

VEGETABLE CROPS:

(WEST CAMPUS)

The Curricular Code will be followed. Each school will designate one official four-member team. Alternates may participate. Due to lack of room space, if the contest exceeds 80 participants, alternates will not be able to participate in ID.

PLEASE READ!!! IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!

THOSE TEAMS DESIGNATED AS OFFICIAL ARE ELIGIBLE FOR HIGH TEAM AWARDS AND SWEEPSTAKES CONSIDERATION. ALTERNATES IN ALL AREAS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR INDIVIDUAL AWARDS. CONTESTANTS WILL MEET AT CONTEST SITES. COACHES WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THEIR OWN STUDENTS BACK TO THE EAST CAMPUS FROM CONTEST SITES. A CONTEST WILL BE CANCELLED IF FEWER THAN THREE TEAMS ARE REGISTERED BY MARCH 14TH, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF AG PEST, FRUIT TREE JUDGING AND SPECIALTY ANIMAL.
