Introduction to Colt Training

Our newest equine course if off with a bang!

Through a generous lease from Fresno State University, Quarter Horse Unit, Modesto Junior College now has twelve horses! This is the first time in MJC history that we have had not only a barn and equine facility, but horses living on west campus! This very exciting course takes students from the very basics of handling young horses, to more advanced training techniques.

Leading, standing tied, being brushed, feet handling, getting bathed and clipped, are all part of the young horses daily routine. Students care for the fillies on a daily basis, and meet all together on Friday mornings for our class session. In addition to the ground work the students will also teach the fillies to go in both directions at all three gaits in our round corral, to be saddled and bridled. Like the kindergarten of training, young horses benefit from this early education and students learn a great deal, about behavior and training methods for young horses.

All of our young horses will be offered for sale to the public at our Equine Unit Open House, April 19th, 2008.

We welcome the public to come and see the new facility, the students, and the horses!
